He here establishes a formula to which he would often returnusing an open entrance to frame a receding interior containing figures and objects that refer to a particular activity and locale. One of the most complex prints in Douze eaux-fortes daprs nature (Twelve Etchings from Nature), Whistler based the composition on drawings and sent it to the Paris Salon of 1859.$200300 664659 JAMES ABBOTT McNEILL WHISTLER (1834-1903),Rue St. Jacques, etching, signed and titled in the plate,11 x 15cm; framed 33 x 33cm.$200300 665SIR FRANCIS (FRANK) SHORT (British 1857-1945),(rural scene),engraving, signed lower right in pencil Frank Short,20 x 35cm, 40 x 55cm overall$100200 666MARCUS STONE R.A.669 (British, 1840-1921),Twos Company, Threes None,659 661 lithograph,OCONNOR DUTCH SCHOOL, 31 x 41cm, 50 x 61cm overall(maritime scene), Woman playing a cittern, $80120 oil on canvas, oil on metal, circa 1850s, 667signed and dated OConnor 1843signed indistinctly lower right, lower left, 20.5 x 17cm.
