b'71RICHARD COLSTON, of LONDON fine William & Mary month going marquetry long case clock, circa 1685.Handsomely crafted domed caddy top with stained floral marquetry above a pierced sound fret panel and brass Doric capped columns to the hood. Convex throat moulding with matching marquetry above a fully Dutch influenced inlaid trunk door depicting crowned rampant lions, maidens, flower vase and extremely intricate bird and flower decoration. Cast brass lenticle to the door, cross grain ogee moulding to the similar inlay decorated base box, book matched walnut panels to the sides with string inlay. The case veneered on Wainscoat oak. Month duration movement with six knopped and finned pillars latched to the front plate, the dial feet also latched. Outside count wheel strike on a single bell. The dial plate with finely cast and gilded cherub head spandrals to the corners separated by floral scroll engraving to the dial edge. Finely matted centre with date aperture above the 6, fine slender seconds subsidiary below the 12, well fretted and blued steel hands. Signed to the chapter ring Rich Colston, London. Retaining original brass cased London weights and brass capped pendulum bob.
