In 1872 he took hisLADY CARRINGTON, 1890, antique portrait engraving,son into partnership and the firm became known all over the70 x 74cm, 90 x 75cm overallworld as John Darling & Son. They exported on large scale$120200 to Eastern Australia and, after Victoria became self-sufficient in grain, Darling travelled overseas in 1871 to secure large542export markets in Britain and Europe. During the 1880s Darling resided in Melbourne, where he founded a secondARTIST UNKNOWN,main office. H.S.K. Kent states: after a second visit to Europe(portrait of a gent),and America, [he] became known as the Grain King, . the biggest shipper of wheat from Australia. By 1890 the firmoil on canvas,also had immense interests in flour-milling and shipping andin a period oak frame, bearing title plaque a large London office managed by the Darlings son CharlesSir William Westbrook Burton,Darling. Darling senior served during the 1870s-1890s in76 x 63cm, 92 x 78cm overallthe South Australian parliament in the Assembly (leader$6001,000of the Opposition) and Legislative Council.
