DOROTHY embroidered above the ship and the monograms of Anstruthers parents (T.D. and M.D.) embroidered on either side. Other elements include dogs, deer & birds. Remnants of newspaper The Northern British Advertiser for March 1864 to verso evidently reflecting the year when it was set in its rosewood frame.Anstruther Donaldson (1826-1864) was the daughter of Captain Thomas Davidson, master of the Dorothy, one of the ships in the Whaling Fleet in Dundee Scotland. On 4 August 1857 she married John Donaldson (1827-1905), the son of James Donaldson Esq. of Kangaroo Hall, Victoria. She died on 3 April 1864 at their residence Bellevue House, Heidelberg Victoria, a week after giving birth to their third child, John Anstruther Davidson.$2,0003,000'
